As most of you already know, Lagree Fitness classes can get pretty intense. Whether it’s a set of serious teasers or a few super-tough planks, each and every class works just about every part of your body. That said, when it comes to Lagree Fitness, post-workout stretching is super-important.


And lucky for you, we spoke with Ellen Stern, a Lagree Fitness instructor at our Malibu location, about the stretch she can’t get enough of.

What stretch do you finish most of your classes with?

I like to incorporate fitness rings during some of my routines, whether it’s during the workout or a cool down.


What are some of the benefits of using a ring?

Rings add resistance when used between the knees, ankles, and hands. This not only works your muscles, but it also adds to the challenges of certain exercises, thereby increasing strength and endurance. Not to mention it also works in assisting in the isolation and activation of specific muscle groups for overall stability and flexibility.


What’s your favorite stretch to do with a ring?

I love using rings to stretch the hamstrings and IT band. Here’s how to perform the stretch:

  1. Lay on your back with your knees bent. While holding the ring, place one foot in the ring and lengthen the leg towards the ceiling while pulling the leg closer to your face. Be sure to keep your knee as straight as possible. Hold stretch for about 20 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
  2. Next, take that same leg and draw it across the body and up towards your shoulder, keeping both hips square with the Megaformer. Hold stretch for about 20 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
